Beautiful Ella

May 17, 2008     Portraits

Today I met Ella for the first time and my heart is smiling. :) Ella is the daughter of one of my very best friend's from college who lives in Chicago (and hopefully moving to Minnesota next year - my fingers are crossed Becky!!) Ella is just about the sweetest girl I have ever met with the most amazing, caring, beautiful, HILARIOUS, parents. Becky and Chad - I'm so happy for you guys!!

I had a hard time photographing Ella because I just wanted to hold her the entire time, but here's the little peanut!

I can already tell she's going to have good humor just like her parents :)

She has the most beautiful eyes!

Doesn't she!?

April-3 years

May 15, 2008     Portraits

Today I photographed my sweet niece's "official" 3-year photos (even though I think the photo from May 5th's post describes her perfectly!);) April is so very special to me and her little (or more like big) personality is always shining. She called all the shots today and even told me to "stop taking pictures" after about the first 10 minutes, but I think I snagged a few good ones before she started running away every time I'd raise my camera. :) I had fun with you today April! I love you very much!

A hug from her big brother :)

workin' it!

the end :)

Thank You's

May 13, 2008     Personal

Ever since I decided to set out on my own as a photographer, I have been overwhelmed by the thanks I receive from my clients. I have a hard time finding the words to express the gratitude I feel towards the people I photograph...no words seem to do it justice. I can tell you that I am forever thankful for them and appreciative that they allow me into their lives to capture their most precious milestones. The journey leads us to friendship everytime and a bond I feel will last a lifetime.

I just received this note in my mailbox and I will be smiling for the rest of the day because of it! Jamie & Jeff - thank YOU for inviting me into your lives! I look forward to the day when I have the honor to photograph your family again!

Race for the Cure

May 11, 2008     Personal

First, happy Mother's Day to all of you moms! :) Today I got to spend the entire day with my mom and it was truly a day I will never forget. We decided to do the Race for the Cure together for the first time and the experience was amazing. On this chilly 36 degree morning, my heart was warmed knowing that my mom and I were part of thousands sharing one similar hope.

As we walked with the sea of 50,000 people, I found myself holding back tears on numerous occasions. Thousands of pink badges with the names of loved ones who have battled breast cancer kept catching my eye...it was a huge reality-check. So many people have suffered - both those who have had/have cancer AND their loved ones. I saw an older man with his wife's name on his badge walking with three younger women all with "Mom" on theirs. How do you carry on and still have hope after losing your wife, your mom, your sister, your daughter??

My mom did and she's by far one of the strongest women I know! We were walking in memory of my grandma - my mom's mom who was taken by breast cancer 44 years ago...so my mom was only about 11 years old. It kills me to think she grew up without her mom and I really can't imagine what she went through...she has had to be so strong. (mom, you are incredible and I am so in awe of you!!!)

Today is truly a day I will never forget...

It was crazy being surrounded by 50,000 people! (and of course I noticed the man on the top right with a beautiful Canon lens) :) I really wish I could have gotten his angle...

...so, I tried to get as high as I could when I spotted a small incline to run up. The crowd of people walking seemed to go on forever!

Some people really dressed up for the occasion! :)

My beautiful mom crossing the finish line!

Of course we had to get a picture together, but taking a self-portrait with my huge camera was a little tricky :)

Bethany

May 7, 2008     Portraits

Today I had the priviledge to photograph the amazingly talented graphic designer, Bethany. Her work is really impressive and I was particularly intigued by the wedding invitations she designs! We had a lot of fun at the shoot and I'm really looking forward to working with her again! Thanks Beth! :)
