Happy Holidays!

December 24, 2009     Personal

2009 was yet another exciting year for Erika McCauley Photographers and I have so much to be thankful for. First I want to thank my awesome assistants Erin, Eric K. and Eric M. whom some of you have seen at our weddings. They do such a great job taking pictures from different perspectives and also working behind the scenes allowing me to focus more on being behind the camera. I truly value your talents, patience and consistently positive attitude.

Second, I want to thank all of my amazing clients for allowing me to pursue my passion as a career. I can’t tell you how good it feels when I learn from a new client that they were referred to me by a previous one. The level of trust you put in me to capture your most important moments with photojournalistic integrity is not taken lightly. I take a great deal of pride in my work…to the point where my husband thinks I am a little obsessed. :) I am well aware there are other photographers you could choose and I am continuously honored and humbled you choose me. Thank you SO much.

I am really excited for 2010 as I meet new clients and continue photographing all the new additions, wobbly first steps and loose teeth of my current clients. Speaking of new additions, as many of you know, my family is expected to grow by one at the end of May!! Eric and I couldn’t be more excited so be on the lookout for some (ok, several) pictures in late Spring/early Summer. :)

Thank you again everyone for being interested in my work. I am so grateful to each and every one of you. Have a safe and wonderful Holiday Season and Joyous New Year!!

- Erika

Pam & Curt

December 21, 2009     Weddings

I was really excited to photograph this wedding. The bride, Pam, is the sister of one of my 2008 brides (Jamie) and I always love reconnecting with families whom I've worked with in the past.

I have to be honest though...I was a LITTLE more nervous than I usually am before a wedding. For no other reason than geography and weather. :) Some brides might be scared to use the following three words in the same sentence: Bismarck, December, Wedding. After all just last week temperatures were hovering in the balmy -20 range in Bismarck. Its difficult to capture real moments of a bride and groom when their sole focus is making sure they dont contract frost-bite! Just one more picture....I promise! :)

But I lucked out in two ways. First, the weather was uncharacteristically warm for this time of year and there was very little wind. It allowed us to be outside a little bit longer than expected and we were able to photograph at several locations throughout the quaint town of Bismarck. I love how "even" the light is in the winter time and I am so glad we got to utilize some of it. Second, I feel privileged that I got to work with Pam and Curt whom allowed me to take "one more picture" a couple of times. :) Pam and Curt thank you so much for inviting me all the way to Bismarck to photograph your special day. Your collective patience and passion are inspiring and I feel so fortunate that you trusted me to document your special day. Enjoy your trip to St. Lucia...I hear its warm there. :)

A little seasonally appropriate ring shot:

Pam getting a little help from her sister Jamie. (I can't wait to photograph her baby girl in February!)

Pam chose the perfect color for a winter wedding!

The guys cleaned up nicely as well! :)

Just one more picture...

I PROMISE....

Cory, Sara, Isaac & Megan

December 15, 2009     Portraits

I was thrilled when Sara contacted me to photograph her beautiful family again! Isaac, now a big brother to Megan, was full of beans the entire time and hilarious to photograph. (I knew it would be a great shoot because he was such a ham at last year's session!) :) And sweet little Megan was just a doll!

Thank you for inviting me to capture your family again Sara & Cory! It was such a pleasure! :)

Bonnie & Jim

December 12, 2009     Weddings

Where can I possibly begin with this wedding?!?

The details? Absolutely stunning.
The bride and groom? Two of the most genuine, kind and loving people you would ever meet.
The reception? Wow.
The “unique” factor? Heartwarming…I will get to that in just a moment.

It was really nice working with a wedding coordinator throughout this wedding. I had the pleasure of working with one of the industry’s best: The Wedding Guys. There are so many details that go in to a wedding and having professionals such as Bruce Vassar and Matthew Trettel running the show resulted in an amazingly beautiful and well run celebration day.

I mentioned a “unique factor”: What made this wedding really unique was Bonnie and Jim had adopted a baby girl just weeks prior. It was so touching for her to be a part of the wedding day. The wedding ceremony was held at Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield, MN and upon conclusion of the ceremony, it immediately transitioned into Baby Samantha's baptism! This was a first for me at a wedding and it was perfect and incredibly touching. Baby Samantha, all 10 weeks of her, was a trooper for photographs throughout the day. :)

I want to also call out what an amazing job the staff did at Hotel Sofitel. Everyone there was extremely polite, professional and demonstrated a passion for service. For example, I have never been asked if I needed a bottle of water by the staff upon entering a reception location...yet another first (and so greatly appreciated)!

Finally, and most importantly, I want to thank Jim and Bonnie for inviting me along on your special day. Your two of the most genuine people I have ever met and capturing your love and respect for one another was incredible. You are truly blessed with great friends, love and of course a beautiful baby girl! Thank you again!

Bonnie's dress was just perfect...

...and so was Samantha's baptismal gown

The happy family!

Summer Harsh did an extraordinary job on the floral arrangements! (She did the flowers for my wedding as well and I can't say enough good things about her!)

Could this flower girl be any cuter!? :)

The reception was held in La Fougasse at Hotel Sofitel

Each element of the meal was a work of art!

Dr. Mambos Combo kept the party rockin'!

December 4, 2009     Portraits

Photographing my good friend Meghan is always a blast even though after the photo shoots I always feel like the biggest wimp! haha! Meghan has been doing an amazing job at some pretty major competitions...and you will see why from these photos!

Lovin' the yoga pose! :)
