Every birthday that arrives I always sit and wonder how in the world an entire year has passed. Today you are one and once again I am in disbelief. How have 365 days passed since the day you joined our family? How has an entire YEAR gone by since your Daddy announced over his tears that you were a boy as he laid you on my chest where our eyes met for the first time?
I remember so vividly the day you were born. My Dad was here from Minnesota ready to watch your brother and sister at a moment's notice...with ice cream ready to dish out for good behavior. :) I thought with you being the third, it would be a quick process. Little did I know, it would take about 13 hours from the time my water broke at home until you made your appearance at the hospital. Your birth was like nothing I could ever put into words as it transformed and changed me. It was magical and my heart hurts with love when I think back on that day. You are such a special boy Nolan and your entrance into our lives fit you perfectly.
When you were born you looked just like your brother Alex. Now, you are your own little guy with a pronounced widow's peak and 4 little teeth that can chomp down on just about anything that's put in front of you...except grapes and bananas - those make you cry. Your brother and sister adore you and not once in the past year have they showed you anything but love...a little too much love from your sister, but it's been love nonetheless. The tight squeezes don't seem to phase you - you are a good sport Nolan. :) Playing ball is hands down your favorite thing in the world to do and I might add that you have a good arm and excellent aim! You think sneezes are hilarious and you would take a bath all day long if it were up to you. You also love "tackling" your daddy when he's wrestling with all three of you and you love hanging onto mommy's legs or having her hold you when she's making dinner. She has gotten good at whipping together meals with one hand and her left bicep is quite toned! :) Your favorite song is Patty-Cake and you're a master at "rolling it" to throw it in the oven to bake. Just this morning you stood up in the middle of the room by yourself and last week you took 2 steps. I'm going to blink and you're going to be running with your siblings. Our home is loud most of the time but your Daddy and I feel so fortunate that our once quiet lives evolved into a home that is so full of life. Our heads spin and we are challenged daily but at the end of every day we are so thankful and frankly, blown away that you, Alex & Greta are ours.
Nolan we are so lucky. You are healthy and we get to hear your incredible belly laugh daily. You are loved beyond measure. Happy Birthday buddy.
