12 weeks

I feel so repetitive these days - always talking about how time moves too quickly and how extraordinarily fast Alex is growing and changing. When he was about 2 weeks old I started panicking - wanting to stop the clock, holding him tightly to my chest trying to savor every second in my sleep-deprived haze....and disliking the fact that I was so tired I was having a hard time remembering everything and deciphering what days things happened on. Then, one day in June he smiled. My panicking immediately turned into excitement - excitement about what is to come! Now here we are at 12 weeks old and my sweet baby boy can steadily hold his head up when I lay him on his stomach. I'm not going to lie, it brings tears to my eyes when I watch him do this and see how strong he has gotten. I'm totally going to be a basket case watching him from the school bleachers one day. :)

My baby boy is somehow already 5 weeks old and I swear every time I pick him up in the morning he's grown another inch. He just started smiling (his daddy got the first gummy grin) and he's melting our hearts on a daily basis. :)

It's been merely 2 weeks and although it's felt like maybe a few days, it's funny that I can only vaguely remember our life without him. I am frantically trying to get time to slow down but every day seems to fly by faster than the previous and he seems to grow and change every time I turn around. (It probably doesn't help that I never know what day it is!)

Stay little just a little longer Alexander so that I can kiss your sweet toes and tuck you under my chin for, well, until I'm ready for you to grow. Two weeks ago when you were put on my chest and you looked peacefully into my eyes, I knew that your Dad and I would never be the same. I will never forget that feeling. I will never forget the joy in my heart and the love that poured out as I held you for the first time. You have changed us forever little Alex. We love you to the moon and back.

He's here

280 days of anticipation and 24 hours of labor later, our precious little boy is finally here. Alexander Joseph McCauley entered into this beautiful world on May 26th at 7:55 p.m. He was 8 lbs 4 ounces and 22 1/2 inches long. The little guy has quite the set of legs on him. :)

The entire experience has overwhelmed me with love and finding the words to describe it is impossible. Although we had 9 months to prepare for this day - reading books, talking to other mothers, going to child birth classes, etc...nothing truly prepared me for what is now my life. I had plenty of time to dream about what his birthday would look like, but the intensity of labor surprised me (to say the least) yet transformed me as the hours passed by into this person who would do absolutely anything for this little guy who is propped in my arms as I type. My heart is overflowing and my eyes are rarely on anything but him. My life has completely changed...and I'm convinced it doesn't get any better than this.
