Kelly & CJ

November 23, 2012     Weddings

A couple of weeks ago I hopped on a plane and flew to Illinois to photograph the marriage of two people who are madly in love with one another. It was beautiful, emotional and so incredibly full of love. It was a day that I know will never be forgotten by those who witnessed it. Kelly & CJ are a perfect match and loved so dearly by their friends & families. What an honor to be the one to document their most-special day!

It is always so much fun photographing referrals from past weddings I've shot. Thank you Bill & Elise for passing my name along to Kelly and her sister Bonnie!! :)

Kelly & CJ, I hope your wedding day was everything you dreamed it would be. I truly cannot thank you and your families enough for inviting me along to capture it!

Thank you to my amazing assistant Erin Bell for capturing this photo of Kelly with her Dad

Do these two look familiar? (see post below!) :)

Thank you Kelly & CJ!!

Bonnie & Matt

October 2, 2012     Engagements

I boarded a plane in Seattle at 11 p.m. Friday night and arrived with bloodshot eyes in Michigan at 6 a.m. where I met two of the most gracious people I have ever encountered. Despite the lack of sleep and confusion about what time it was, I was anxious for the day to begin...I knew it was going to be memorable. After a quick rest we got started and headed over to The Big House at the University of Michigan. Obviously Bonnie & Matt are HUGE fans and HOLY COW it was incredible photographing them there. As we walked through the locker room you could literally feel anticipation in the air and as we made our way through the tunnel and approached the enormous field I think we all felt a surge of adrenaline...so much that Matt (who doesn't play football) kicked a field goal and made it!! (Matt, you should really rethink you career path!) :)

As you will see in the photos below, Bonnie and Matt are naturals in front of the camera. They are hilarious, authentic, joyful and most importantly, they are so crazy in love. :)

They are getting married on 5-4-2013 :)

They had me laughing the majority of the day :)

Greta - 6 months

August 2, 2012     Personal

My sweet baby girl is already 6 months old. Where has half of an entire year gone?? Since her birth, our lives have been twirled around, flipped upside down and dunked under water about 100 times it seems. I pray that the next 6 months are a bit more stable, and a little bit slower ... but oh how thankful I am for our two precious children who have kept us laughing and loving them more with each passing day. Our hearts are so full.

Greta is extraordinary. We couldn't ask for a sweeter little girl...a little girl who has the biggest smile, the most beautiful eyes and such a gentle disposition. My heart overflows with love for our little lady...how we got so lucky, I will never know. We are so very blessed.

We love you so much sweet baby Greta. Happy 6-month birthday.

Kendra & Jake

July 17, 2012     Weddings

Wow, where to begin with this beautiful couple? Kendra & Jake stole my heart from the moment we met. At their engagement session, our friendship formed and I have a feeling it will continue for many more years. Needless to say, I couldn't wait to photograph their wedding. Their day was remarkable. Absolutely, 100% perfect. The McNamara Alumni Center with D'Amico Catering were fabulous for both their ceremony & reception. I always love photographing at the McNamara and you'll see why as you scroll through the photos. The building is breathtaking!

Kendra & Jake - thank you for trusting me to capture your beautiful love for one another. It is so clear to everyone around you that you belong together and I wish you nothing but happiness as you begin life's journey together. I look forward to keeping in touch and sharing stories of belly dancers and shirtless bikers with you. :)

To Kendra & Jake's families - thank you for being so easy to work with, so loving and so supportive. It was such a pleasure and an honor working with all of you!

Also, Katie DeVries - it was so wonderful working with you again! You are so good at what you do. :)

I just love when couples decide to see each other before the ceremony - it allows for moments like this one

Carlo - you put me in tears as I took this photo. Your love for your daughter is something I feel privileged to have witnessed.

Sweet Kendra thank you for insisting on having this photo taken :) (thanks Erin Bell for capturing it!)

1,700 Miles

April 27, 2012     Personal

I've written this post 100 times in my head but have no idea how to start it. Writing about it here makes it real...that, and the "For Sale" sign in our yard. My little family is going to be embarking on an adventure - one that I didn't see coming pre-Greta's birth, but one that I know whole-heartedly is the right thing for our family.

We're moving to Seattle.

There, I said it...(and here come the butterflies)

I'm so excited. I can't wait to shop for fresh salmon at Pike's Place Market; to camp in the mountains with my family; to see the look on the kid's faces when we feed the seagulls from a pier; to run on the beach & find seashells with Alex & Greta, to smell that fresh mountain air that makes you want to breathe in as much as your lungs can hold; to take in sights that leave you in wonder...I love Washington. I was born there and although my parents moved us to MN when I was very young, the area has always held a special place in my heart. It will be so good to be back.

With all of this to look forward to, of course I'm incredibly sad to leave Minnesota. Everything that I know is here - mainly my dear family & friends. The thought of leaving them, well, it will probably be one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I know we'll be back frequently though and I have high hopes that we'll have visitors in Seattle. As it turns out, it only takes just over 3 hours to fly 1,700 miles - piece of cake! :)

As for my photography, I'll be flying back to shoot the weddings I have booked of course. In Washington, I hope to take some time to get back to photographing nature - something I have put on the back-burner simply because I have lacked time. Being in nature with my camera lights me on fire and I can't wait to feel that way again. As for weddings and family shoots - stay tuned. I plan on settling into West coast life with my family first and taking it from there. :)

And because it just doesn't seem right to not include a photo, here's one I took at the market in Seattle a few years ago. :)
